Hovedinteressen min er lipidfordøyelse i fisk. Først og fremst jobber jeg med fiskelarver og hvordan deres evne til å fordøye fett og transportere dette rundt i kroppen forandrer seg etter hvert som den vokser.

Jeg jobber med fiskearter som er aktuelle for oppdrett. Fokuset på oppdrettsarter i Norge skifter stadig, med ett hederlig unntak som er laks. Derfor jobber vi med en rekke ulike arter som kveite, torsk, berggylte og nå kommer rognkjeks. Disse artene fyller svært ulike nisjer i naturen med fordøyelsessystemer tilpasset disse som derfor er ganske variert. En viktig del av forskningen på disse fiskeartene er derfor å beskrive og forstå hvordan mage- tarmsystemene deres fungerer. Vi analyserer biokjemisk hvor effektive fordøyelsesenzymene er, vi ser på hvordan de forskjellige artene regulerer genuttrykkene og proteinmengden av ikke bare fordøyelsesenzymer, men også proteiner som transporterer fett stoffer inn i tarmen og videre fra tarmen til kroppen. Å jobbe med organismer som ikke er større enn 4 til 5 mm byr på metodiske utfordringer, derfor består mye av arbeidet mitt i å utvikle nye metoder. Nylig har vi utviklet en metode som lar oss kvantifisere hvor mye fett en fiskelarve kan fordøye og ta opp i tarmepitelet.
