Capture fisheries

CDCF has over the years cooperated in fisheries research in many countries, from South America to Africa and Asia. Much of this activity has been linked to the “Nansen Programme”, and surveys with the research vessel “Dr. Fridtjof Nansen”, but a number of independent projects have also been carried out.

Our activities within capture fisheries encompass:

  • Marine ecosystem monitoring – conducting research surveys (acoustic, trawl or ecosystem surveys), assessment of fisheries resources and management advice, climate change effects assessment;
  • Institutional capacity building – training personal from institutions belonging to the cooperating countries (onboard research vessel, through training courses or institutional exchange programs)
  • Facilitating student exchange between cooperating nations and Norwegian institutions (Master and PhD level)
