Nordic Climate-Fish 2nd Conference

The Nordic network “Climate impact on fish, fishery industry and management in the Nordic Seas” mid-term meeting for CLIFFIMA-net

Nordic Climate-Fish 2nd Conference:
“Latitudinal changes in marine resources, exploitation and society within the Nordic and adjacent Seas”
Held on 15-17 August 2012 in Risør, Norway

Latitudinal changes in:

  • Ecosystem productivity, food webs, and population dynamics
  • Geographical distribution, species habitat, thermal habitat, and invasive and retreating species
  • Fisheries, quotas shares and zone attachments
  • Fishing industry and local communities
  • Other related issues

The main objective of this cross-disciplinary conference was to summarise knowledge about the effect of climate change on the ecosystem in the Nordic Seas and the Barents Sea, with special emphasis on the effect on fish stocks and fisheries, and how this relates to fishery economics and management. The meeting was held in an informal and social setting.  The city of Risør’s white wood house charm acted as a peaceful stage for network building among the  participants. Social arrangements included guided walkabout in the town, coastline excursions in historic wooden boats and dinner at the light house.

It followed in the footsteps of the  Nordic Climate-Fish Conference at Solstrand, Norway in January 2011 .The conference was hosted by the Nordic Network CLIFFIMA-net (” Climate impacts on fish, fishery industry and management in the Nordic Seas”, 2010-2013)

The first two days of the meeting focused on scientific presentations, while the last day of the conference was an open network meeting and stakeholder forum. About 50 people, and members and stakeholders of the network attended this conference.

Acceptance of participation will be communicated after deadline. Register here
