It is intended that selected papers based on presentations at the above Symposium will be published in a special issue of the ICES Journal of Marine Science (IJMS). Papers based on oral or poster presentations will be equally eligible for consideration. Around 60 papers can be published within the size limit of the special issue. In the likely event that more than 60 papers will be proposed for publication, an initial selection will be done by the Symposium Publications Committee. However, initial selection does not guarantee publication. All the selected manuscripts will then be subject to the usual peer review and editorial procedures of IJMS which must be satisfied before any submission is accepted for publication.
David N MacLennan and David A Demer have been appointed as Guest Editors for the IJMS special issue, with John Ramster as the IJMS in-house Supervising Editor.
Authors who wish to contribute to the special issue should prepare manuscripts in accordance with the IJMS Guide for Authors , Word List, Word Template, and the supplementary requirements detailed here. Texts must be in English and submitted as MS Word files.
See also table showing the preferred names, definitions and symbols for acoustical scattering quantities. The formulas in this table follow the current IJMS practice for mathematical content, see Section (2.3) of the Guide for Authors.
A strict length limit will be applied. Any manuscript proposed for publication must be within the allowed size of seven Journal pages (which may include a maximum of one page in colour). Around 1,000 words of text are equivalent to one Journal page. Figures and Tables require ¼, ½ or one page each according to the amount of information. Papers will NOT be accepted if they exceed the size limit according to these rules.
A strict timetable is essential to ensure speedy publication. The following deadlines will apply in the initial stages:
- Initial submission of manuscripts proposed for publication: 19 May 2008
- Selection of manuscripts by the Publications Committee: 23 June 2008
- Notify authors of their manuscript status with comments: 25 June 2008
- Submission of revised manuscripts for peer review: 8 August 2008
Thereafter the timetable will depend on the response of referees as well as authors.
All initial submissions of manuscripts proposed for publication must be submitted via this website. Subsequent communications regarding the manuscripts must be directed to the assigned Guest Editor.
The editors will apply reasonable deadlines for the receipt of reviews and revisions, and with the cooperation and support of all those concerned, it is expected that the special issue will be published in June 2009. The quality of the special issue will be greatly enhanced if all contributions consistently adhere to these rules. |
