North Sea Whiting

Advice 2011: 12 700 tonnes human consumption landings
Advice 2010: 6 800 tonnes human consumption landings
Agreed
TAC 2010: 12 900 tonnes human consumption landings

Summary of ICES advice, June 2010 for whiting in the North Sea and the Channel:

Stock satus

The spawning stock has increased somewhat since 2006. There are signs of improved recruitment in 2008 and 2009.

Management advice

There are no reference points to enable precautionary advice. A 50 % reduction in F is needed to maintain SSB at the 2010 level. This corresponds to human consumption landings of less than 12 700 t in 2011 corresponding to 9 500 t from Subarea IV and 3 200 t from Division VIId. Such landings are expected to lead to 6 900 t discards and 2 400 t industrial by-catch

Key numbers
