With the stock assessment and quota from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) as a basis, the IMR adds professional advice to the annual fisheries negotiations between Norway and other parties (EU, Russia, the Faroe Islands and Greenland) and to the national quota distribution.
Advice for these species come in early summer:
Northeast Arctic cod, Norwegian coastal cod, northeast Arctic saithe, northeast Arctic haddock, Northeast Arctic Greenland halibut, North Sea herring, plain redfish, mentella, saithe and haddock in the North Sea.
Advice for these species come in the fall:
Cod in the North Sea.
Mackerel, Western horse mackerel (horse mackerel), Norwegian spring-spawning herring, blue whiting, sandeel, Norway pout and capelin in the Barents Sea.
