Knowledge and advice for rich and clean oceans

Knowledge and advice for rich and clean oceans 2015
Underwater ecosystems are highly varied, from tiny algae to huge whales, from fjords to open seas. IMR needs to know about all of them. We send vessels on research surveys, and take samples using dip nets and trawls. We perform experiments at fish farms and at our laboratories, in order to learn more about what is happening in the sea and at the fish farms.
In this brochure you can read about some of the species that we are studying, and get a sense of the wide range of work that is done at the IMR.

Our ships - and the men whose names they bear

Large components of the Institute's research are based on biological and physical observations from the oceans and coastal areas, i.e. data collected on research cruises by the Institute's fleet of ships. The extensive use of field observations gives Norwegian marine research special research strength, today as well as historically. This brochure shows IMR's fleet of ships from 1900 till today and descibes also the men who gave the vessels name (Sars, Hjort, Dannevig, Nansen etc.).
