Works with
Head of the research program for Oil and Fish at the IMR. Gives advice to the government and public on the different environmental effects of the petroleum industry on the marine environement. In particular:
- Potential environmental consequences of new petroleum acitivities, particularly in especially valuable areas such as Lofoten - Vesterålen and the Møre banks.
- Evaluation and advice on applications for seismic investigations
- Evaluation and advice on applications for discharge of pollution
- Development of new methods for analysis of risk for accidental spills from the oil industry
- Environmental consequences of accidental spills (eg. shipwrecks, breakage of pipelines, blowouts)
The IMR representative in "Faglig Forum" for the Integrated Management Plan for the Barents Sea. Has since 2002 participated in development of integrated and ecosystem based management plans for Norwegian marine ecosystems. Works to further develop methods for area-based management and Marine Spatial Management (MSM) as tools to implement ecosystem-based management.
Development of holistic monitoring strategies for marine ecosystems, such as ecosystem surveys in Large Marine Ecosystems. Use results from such monitoring to study the large-scale distribution and migration patterns of fish and marine mammals in various marine ecosystems such as: the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the Benguela system and the Mozambique channel.
