PROFESSIONAL HISTORY:

I am a research fisheries biologist with over 30 years of broad international experience (27 years U.S. Federal service) and a record of solid accomplishments as a strong contributor at outstanding research institutions:

• At the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) in Bergen, Norway, I am a Senior Research Scientist working on a number of issues related to ecosystem-based research and management. I head the International Project Office (IPO) for the Ecosystem Studies of Sub-Arctic Seas (ESSAS) project.
• In the United States, I worked 18 years (1975-1993) as a stock assessment scientist at the Woods Hole Laboratory of the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, and 8 years at the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office where she led development of “Fisheries Ecosystem Planning for the Chesapeake Bay” the first Fisheries Ecosystem Plan developed in the U.S.
• In Maputo, Mozambique, I devoted 3 years (1996-1999) to foreign-aid service at the Instituto de Investigaçao Pesquero (IIP - Fisheries Research Institute) in a program sponsored by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) to help Mozambique research and manage their fisheries.
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS
Upon invitation from Poul Degnbol (Head of Advisory Programme, International Council for the Exploration of the Sea), served as Chair of the Review Group on Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems. In my capacity as Review Group Chair, I was invited as full member to participate at the vulnerable marine ecosystems advice-drafting meeting (17-18 May, 2011) at ICES Headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark. As review group chair, I led the review, and had a special obligation to assure that the advice reflects the review group’s assessment/analysis.
