Min utdannelse i fiskeribiologi har jeg fra Universitetet i Bergen. Våren 2000 avholdt jeg min doktor disputas over temaet; “Distribution of gadoids in the Barents Sea; Impact on survey results”. Avhandlingen tok for seg hvordan torsk fordeler seg i vannmassene i henhold til endringer av ulike miljøparametre som lys, temperatur og fødetilgang, og hvilke konsekvenser variasjonen i fiskefordelingen kunne få for våre viktigste mengdeberegningsinstrumenter (bunntrål og akustikk).

I de senere årene har jeg vært ansvarlig for det årlige økosystemtoktet i Barentshavet, jeg har ledet et stor Eu prosjekt der vi har merket torsk med elektroniske merker og sammenlinket adferd hos torsk i 5 ulike økosystemer. jeg har merket kveite med satellitt merker og vanlig knvensjonelle merker. Jeg har vært på tokt utenfor afrika og jeg leder et samarbeidsprosjekt med Indonesia

division). The field of expertise is related to fish behaviour and abundance surveys
1994-1999 Doctoral fellowship financed by the Norwegian Research Council. In this period I have also been the cruise leader for several of the annual abundance surveys conducted in the Barents Sea and other, more experimental cruises.
1991-1993 Different short-time commitments at IMR where I have;
- Analyzed stomachs of Greenland halibut
- Cruise leader for 4 commercial fishing vessels, establishing the geographical distribution of Greenland halibut.
- Cruise leader during an experiment on size selectivity for long-line fisheries.
- Instructing students at Institute of Fishery and Marine Biology, University of Bergen, about the methods used in fishery biology.

University experience:
Tutor for a PH.D. student and partly involved as tutor or data supplier for 2 other PH.D students. Participating in a scientific Ph.D. Committee and acting as an “opponent/examinator” for a Doctoral thesis at NTNU, 2007:“Surveillance of marine resources by use of stationary platforms and Autonomous Vehicle (AUV). Teaching of Master students in survey assessment methodology, and have at several occasions been used as sensor for the University of Bergen, Ålesund College, Norwegian College of Fishery science in Tromsø and the University of Bergen.

International experience:
Cruise leader of the former Norwegian - Soviet joint 0-group surveys in the Barents Sea.
Visiting scientist at Fisheries Conservation Chair, Memorial University, St. John’s Canada in, Nov-Dec 1996 and at Maurice Lamontagne Institute, Mont-Joli Canada, in Sept-Oct, 2003.
Member of the steering committee for the symposia« Fish behaviour in exploited systems», Bergen, 2003.
Participated with scientific papers or invited contributions to international meetings and conferences in England, Russia, France, Iceland, USA, Canada, Germany, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden. Host for several scientists visiting IMR, doing research related to fish tagging. Member of the ICES FAST (Fisheries Acoustics, Science and Technology) Working group and FTFB (Fishing Technology and Fish Behaviour) since 1998.
Financially co-ordinator for the European CODYSSEY (Q5RS-2002-00813). Involved in several international projects including the following EU project (STEREO; FAIR CT98-4122).
Participating in a planning committee for a project in Indonesia, financed by NORAD (Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation)
Scientific coordinator for a join IMR/PINRO Ecosystem survey in the Barents Sea (2007- 2008).
Cruise leader on a 6 week survey in the Indian Ocean with F/F Fridtjof Nansen (oct 2009)
Project leader for co-operation project between Indonesia and Norway (2010-2013)

Leader experience:
I have experience as cruise leader, project leader, and project co-ordinator on national and international level; as chairman of steering groups for research projects and for an international study group. Has been member of the steering committee of a large international symposium in fisheries behaviour in exploited systems. Head of a research group at IMR called “Biogeography and Trophic interactions” (si March 2007-April 2010).
