Arbeider med

Jens-Otto Krakstad er fiskeribiolog ved CDCF. Fra 2000-2002 arbeidet han som erstatnings forsker ved Namibia sitt forskningsinstitutt NatMIRC. I den perioden var han involvert i bestandsberegning av Namibisk hestemakrell. Dette innebar å forberede forvaltningsråd for Fiskeridepartementet i Namibia, opprettholde forbindelsene med representanter for industrien, samt on-the-job opplæring av andre forskere og teknikere.

I dag har han sitt viktigste arbeidsfelt innenfor EAF-Nansen-programmet, og spesielt på marine ressursene langs vestkysten av Afrika. Han har deltatt som toktleder på mer enn 30 tokt med ulike formål langs kysten av Afrika (akustisk, swept area, økosystem og eksperimentelle undersøkelser) om bord RV Dr. Fridtjof Nansen og andre fartøy. Krakstad har som en del av sitt arbeid hatt flere oppdrag for FAO, samt deltatt og vært ansvarlig for ulike tidligere BENEFIT og BCC prosjekter, og deltatt i EU prosjektet 'FADIO'. Han er også ansvarlig for det bilaterale samarbeidet mellom Mauritius og Norge om støtte til den Mauritiske fiskerisektoren og var ansvarlig for det tidligere bilaterale fiskeri samarbeidet mellom Nicaragua og Norge.

Experience:
Cruise leader on more than 30 cruises of various purposes along the coast of Africa onboard R.V. Dr. Fridtjof Nansen and other vessels.
Project leader for the bilateral fisheries cooperation between Sri Lanka and Norway
Project leader for the bilateral fisheries cooperation between Mauritius and Norway
Project leader for the former bilateral fisheries cooperation between Nicaragua and Norway

03/2000-12/2002 Replacement scientist at Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. Swakopmund, Namibia, for Centre for Development Cooperation in Fisheries, IMR, Norway.

The work consisted mainly of assessment of the Namibian horse mackerel stock, involving extensive survey activities, using multi frequency acoustics, geo-statistical models and GIS tools. Participation in several national and international research programs with collaborators in SADC and Europe. Providing information to senior management at the Ministry of Fisheries and liaise with industry representatives, as well as on-the-job training of fellow scientists and technicians.
