Flaggskipleder, Fram – Nordområdesenter for klima og miljøforskning: Havforsuring og økosystemeffekter i nordlige farvann
Prosesser som er særlig knyttet til Arktis og til havisen er lite vektlagt i globale klimaundersøkelser og man vet lite om hvordan havforsuring vil påvirkes av en nedsmelting av havisen. Det vil derfor være et prioritert satsingsområde for flaggskipet å få innsikt i hva slags betydning disse prosessene har for karbonkretsløpet.
Effekter av havforsuring på arter og økosystem er et nytt forskningsfelt som har fått stor oppmerksomhet i de siste årene. I tillegg vil man i nye effektstudier også undersøke effekten av kombinerte stressfaktorer, slik som forsuring kombinert med økt temperatur, eller forsuring og miljøgifter.

The objective of the BarEcoRe project is to evaluate the effects of global environmental change on the future structure and resilience of the Barents Sea ecosystem. This will be studied by investigating the effects of past changes in climate and fisheries on the Barents Sea ecosystem, by developing indicators of ecosystem resilience, diversity and structure, and by forecasting the possible future states of the Barents Sea ecosystem under particular environmental and fisheries scenarios.
