Scientific background
My master of science (1996-1999) was carried out at the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Bergen under the guidance of Prof. Anders Fjose. Here I studied the DNA binding properties of PAX proteins in zebrafish.
The doctoral thesis (2000-2005) was conducted at Sars Int Centre for Marine Molecular Biology under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Chourrout. Here I studied various aspects of genes and genomes of the tunicate Oikopleura dioica. From 2005 to 2010 I was Postdoctoral Fellow at IMR in the group Marin genomics under the leadership of Prof.Frank Nilsen. Here I was developing methodologies and resources in cod genomics. Since 2010 I have been a senior researcher in the research group Reproduction and Growth at IMR. From working mostly on cod the focus has shifted more over to salmon, but also halibut, haddock, calanus and salmon louse. The methodology is wide from bioinformatics studies (GWAS, epigentics, transcriptomics) to microinjections (CRISPR-cas9). The scientific questions are also differing much between the projects and the projects involve a high number of collaborators both within and outside Norway.
