Ann-Lisbeth Agnalt
Works with
• Stock-enhancement/sea ranching with European lobster with emphasize on
ecological interactions/effects and carrying capacity.
• Reproduction, growth, movement and behavior in crustaceans.
• Introduction of new species, mainly crustaceans. We combine genetics and biology to clarify origin, variation and adaptation (i.e. plasticity) decisive for establishment and
possible further dispersal.
• Mating experiments with local cod populations; part of CodBioBank.
Curriculum Vitae
Working Experience
• 1996- Scientist associated with the research group “Benthos and shellfish” at Institute of Marine
Research, Bergen Norway. Current research activities include stock-enhancement/sea
ranching with European lobster with emphasis on ecological ineractions/effects and carrying
capacity in connection with releases. Reproduction, growth, movement and behavoiur in
crustaceans species as European lobster (Homarus gammarus), American lobster (Homarus
americanus) and snow crab (Chionocetes opilio) are also fields of expertice. Research activities
also include genetics and biology combined in studies of introduced species, aiming to clarify the
origin, variation and adaptation (i.e. plasticity) decisive for establishment and possible further
dispersal. Involved as well in mating experiments with local stocks of cod (Gadus morhua)
(CodBioBank).
• 1994-1995 Associate Professional Expert for Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations, Swakopmund, Namibia. Employed at the project “Institutional support in fisheries
management, policy and planning” in Namibia with dr. Les Clark as project leader, and located to
the Ministry of Fisheries Resources in Swakopmund. Working tasks were to assist in collecting
and processing data from important marine fisheries resources, especially to strengthen methods
for stock assessment for one of the most important pelagic resources Southern African pilchard
(Sardinops ocellatus).
• 1992 - 1994 Associate Professional Expert for Food and Agriculture Organization of the United
Nations, Rome, Italy. Employed at the headquarters in Rome, Italy, and located to the “Marine
Resources Division”. Responsible for preparing and editing numerous publications produced by
the “Species Identification and Data Programme” lead by Dr. Kent Carpenter. This included
compiling information on taxonomy, general biology as well as ecology of various marine
resources as shellfish, crustaceans, fish and marine mammals. Most of the publications were in
English, but a few were also in Spanish and French.
• 1989 - 1992 University scholarship (Universitets stipendiat) at the Department of Fisheries and
Marine Biology, University of Bergen, Norway. In addition to work on a PhD program, I was
responsible for giving courses to graduate students, both Norwegians and foreign (part of the
NORAD diploma course).
