Ocean Researchers Advance Farther North and Eastward

Ocean scientists are studying areas farther north and eastward during this year's Ecosystem Survey.  “As the ice recedes, we must follow!” says cruise coordinator Lis Lindal Jørgensen.

Survey of radioactive contamination in the Kara Sea

Fjords on the eastern side of the Novaya Zemlya islands were used as a dumping ground for radioactive waste right up until the early 1990s. Next week sees the start of a joint Norwegian/Russian research cruise to survey radioactive contamination in the area and check the condition of the dumped objects.

Farmed Escaped Salmon Change Wild Salmon Stocks

Farmed escaped salmon affect both the genetic composition of wild salmon and their geographic population structure. However, no direct relationship has been established between the frequency of escaped salmon in a given river and the extent of the genetic impact on that specific population.
