Annual reports released today

Every year, IMR publish reports on the status of Norwegian aquaculture and the ecosystems of the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the North Sea and the Norwegian coastal zone. The reports have summaries and figure legends in English.

When cod spawn

Every December and January, sexually mature Northeast Arctic cod migrate from the Barents Sea to their spawning grounds between Finnmark and western Norway. The most important of these grounds are in Lofoten and Vesterålen.

"Alien" caught in the Norwegian Sea

The amphipod Phronima sedentaria, which is commonly found in southern waters such as the Mediterranian, was - surprisingly - caught by IMR in the Norwegian Sea last winter. Frightening as it may look, the little fellow is only 30 mm long and thus far less intimidating than its science fiction double!
