Mackerels are located in this area during winter. The mackerel stays, however, close to the ocean floor which in this area is around 170 meters below surface. Therefore, the mackerel will probably not be affected by the crude oil. Adult fish will normally move away from any danger and is therefore unlikely to be influenced.
Some large saith, blue whiting and other fish species living close to the ocean floor, such as cod and ling, are also found in this area. IMR also expects fish of these species to be uninfluenced by the oil spill.
