Joaquin Tintore

Joaquín Tintoré Subirana is Dr. in Physical Oceanography (1988) and Permanent full Research Professor from CSIC (Spanish Council for Scientific Research) at IMEDEA (Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies), a research institute based in Mallorca Island that centres its activities in interdisciplinary research applied for example to the understanding of the coastal oceans.

His research interests have evolved from the understanding of physical processes in the upper ocean to the study of mesoscale variability and its interdisciplinary effects in relation to operational oceanography and ocean forecasting, using modelling, observations and data assimilation. More recently his interest has been focused on the application of solid based interdisciplinary knowledge for sound integrated coastal zone management in a global sustainability framework.  His work has lead to more than 80 research publications in international refereed journals. He has been PI in 28 research projects and has also coordinated two EC funded European projects. He has directed 8 Master thesis, 9 Ph.
