I am a senior scientist at NIFES where I am working mainly with protein and amino acids. I have been working with different scientific models as Atlantic salmon, rodents and in vitro cell cultures to study how amino acid modulation affects general growth, accretion and the general amino acid metabolism.

I work mainly with amino acid modulations and their effects on the general metabolism and deposition pattern. In my studies, I uses different model systems with the aim of increasing the understanding about how amino acid modulation affects the signaling cascades in metabolism and thus have potential impact on type of growth and metabolism of amino acids within the body. During the later decades, alternative ingredients, as plant concentrates, have replaced the fishmeal in aquaculture fish feeds. By replacing the animal proteins with plant ingredients, the amino acid profiles as well as the composition and amount of non-protein nitrogen compounds may change significantly. Both of these potentially increase the requirement for amino acids, as the amino acids has to support the synthesis of non-protein nitrogen compounds in addition to support growth.
