Mitt arbeid på NIFES har i hovedsak vært konsentrert rundt tre tema; beinutvikling og vitamin A i forhold til ernæring og toksikologi hos tidlige fiskestadier. Jeg har tidligere jobbet en del med custom microarrays, men har i senere tid gått mer over til analyse av RNAseq data. Forskningen har i stor grad vært fokusert på aktuelle oppdrettsarter som torsk, laks og i den senere tid berggylte (rensefisk), men også på Hyse i forbindelse effekten miljøgifter.


Karakterisering av leppefisk tarm


For at rensefisk skal bli en del av løsningen på luseproblematikken i oppdrett av laksefisk er næringen avhengig av stabil tilgang på aktuelle arter. Man har allerede kommet veldig langt med oppdrett av berggylte til bruk som rensefisk, men det er fremdeles flere utfordringer knyttet til ernæring og vekstpotensiale.


Som en del av Leppeprod ,et FHF finansiert konsortie, har vi i samarbeid med NOFIMA og Veterinær Høyskolen sett på foringsfrekvens og næringsopptak hos berggylte. I motsetning til mer konvensjonelle norske oppdrettsarter som laks og torsk mangler berggylte både magesekk og pylorus blindsekker. I andre vertebrater med disse organene til stede har både magesekk og pylorus viktige funksjoner i næringsopptaket og 70% av oppholdstiden i fordøyelsessystemet er i magen. I tillegg har berggylten også en svært kort tarm.  I den forbindelse har vi sett på næringsopptak i de ulike delene av tarmen, analysert passasjetid for ulike næringsstoffer og sekvensert de ulike delene av tarmen for å se på potensiale for opptak av næringsstoffer.
