Eg er forskingssjef i forskingsseksjonen på framand og smittestoff. Seksjonen har i dag 11 tilsette og eg reknar med at vi vert 13 før 2014 er omme. Som leiar har eg ansvar for at utvikling og utføring eit teneleg overvakingssystem for miljøgifter og biologiske agens i villfisk i samarbeid med mine medarbeidarar.
Eg har tidlegare leia mineral- og sporlementlaboratoriet ved NIFES, vore tilsett i FAO og har også drive kommersiell laboratoriedrift i Odda. Eg er vidare professor II i næringsmiddelkjemi ved Biologisk Institutt ved UiB og underviser i kurset Næringsmiddelkjemi.

Som forskningssjef arbeider eg med prosjekt innhenting og oppfølging innan feltet framand- og smittestoff.

Når det gjeld mi eiga forskning er den knytt opp mot miljøgifter i sjømat. Dette gjeld både tungmetall (spesielt kadmium og kvikksølv) og organiske miljøgifter (POPs). Men eg har også arbeidd med essensielle mineralar i ernæring slik som jod, sink, selen, jern og fleire både i human ernæring og i fiskeernæring.
