The 2006 WGFTFB Meeting

Greetings Members and Associates,

Thanks to a kind offer from the Faculty of Fisheries, Ege University, Turkey, the 2006 meeting of the Working Group on Fishing Technology and Fish Behaviour (WGFTFB) will be held 3 - 7 April 2006, in Izmir, Turkey.

This years terms of reference cover five fields of research. For each of these fields, conveners were selected during the Rome meeting, with the role of coordinating contributions and overseeing the production of a review document.  If you would like to contribute, prior to, or during the meeting please liase with the contact person shown.

The first day (3rd April) is arranged so that individual presentations relating to each of the TORs can be given in plenary. The individual presentations will be chosen by the topic group convenors together with the Chair WGFTFB. Following this, each topic group will have the opportunity to finalise their findings, for this individual rooms have been allocated. Please indicate on the registration page the topic group you intend to participate in.

The principal findings of each TOR will be presented to the entire group during the last two days of the meeting (6 & 7th). If you have an oral presentation or a poster you would like to present, please contact the chair and the appropriate convener identified in the TORs.

If you would like to present something out with the terms of reference, a half-day open session is planned (Tuesday 4th am). 20 minutes (including questions) is allocated to each speaker. Abstracts for this session should be submitted to the Chair, no later than 28th February. Presentations should be supported with an e-paper.

A tentative agenda is available, please note that this is subject to change.

I remind you that a national progress report is, as usual, required. However, I request a slight addition this year. I would also like you to provide a brief summary of the work that your institute plans to conduct between 2005 and 2006. The objective of this is to encourage communication and discussion between institutes that may be involved in similar research.

To register for the meeting, you will use the online registration form , this is only available on this site, please register no later that 01 March 2006.

Further details about Izmir and its many attractions can be found here. The University is located outside the city of Izmir and public transport is available from the city centre. More details will be provided soon.

Please note is the individual responsibility of each participant to arrange their own accommodation. Click here for a list of hotels and here for their location.

I look forward to seeing you all in Izmir.

Best Regards,

Dr. Norman Graham, Chair
