Blog: Aboard the EAF-Nansen

Join us virtually on the R/V Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, as it embarks on a month-long cruise departing from Cape Town, South Africa, to conduct scientific research in the deep seas of the Southeast Atlantic Fisheries Organization (SEAFO) convention area before arriving at Walvis Bay, Namibia.

The objective is to analyse occurrence and abundance of benthopelagic fish and sessile epibenthos in selected ‘existing fishing areas’ and areas closed to fishing within the SEAFO CA. The cruise is a contribution to SEAFO resulting from a co-operation between SEAFO, the EAF-Nansen project, and the FAO Deep-sea programme.

FAO staff Edoardo Mostarda will be blogging along the journey and providing us with an inside glimpse of life on a research vessel as they carry out important scientific research in the Southeast Atlantic area.
