Areas of scientific responsibility:
- Support the Norwegian fishing industry by developing and adapting energy-efficient, environmentally and resources-friendly capture methods
- Provide suitable conditions for scientifically based technical regulation of fisheries and contribute to the analysis and evaluation of the consequences of such regulations
- Contribute to more accurate and precise stock assessments through improved gear-based sampling
- Support developing countries by supplying expertise in fish-capture technology
- Supply fish-capture expertise to regional, national and international processes
Expertise:
- Catch-related behaviour
- general expertise in passive (fish-pot, long-line, gillnet) and active (trawl, deepwater trawl ?? , seine-net) gears
- By-catch, unintended mortality, habitat impact and energy consumption of different types of gear
- Interactions between petroleum and fishing activities
- Experimental methodology and the development and operation of instrumentation for fish-capture and behavioural experiments
- Data-processing and statistics, and processing of video and photo material
