Capture Fisheries

CDCF has over the years cooperated in fisheries research in many developing countries. Much of this activity has been linked to the “Nansen Programme”, but a number of independent projects have also been carried out. Currently, CDCF is involved in fisheries research programmes in Angola, Indonesia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Pakistan and Thailand.

The Institute of Marine Research is responsible for the operation of five large research vessels. These research vessels are our most important tools for gathering data in the fields of marine resources and environment. One of these vessels, R/V “Dr. Fridtjof Nansen” is permanently operating in the Southern Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean and an important tool in many of our projects.

CDCF can, through its core staff and other staff at IMR, provide expertise that covers most of the topics contained in capture fisheries research. Among topics where expertise of high international standard is available, we can highlight:

  • Fisheries biology
  • Biodiversity
  • Acoustic Surveys
  • Trawl Surveys
  • Eco-Surveys
  • Fish and Environment
  • Climate Change Effects
  • Fish Stock Assessment
  • Scientific Management Advice
  • Gear technology
