Nansis

The Nansen Programme has for more than 30 years supported developing countries in fisheries research and management. As part of this programme the research vessel “Dr. Fridtjof Nansen” has conducted a number of cooperative surveys to collected scientific background data on the status of the marine fish resources and environment. Data collected belongs in principle to the countries and regions where the surveys have been conducted*.

The research programme has a database and information system called Nan-Sis build in the late 1980’s to store and handle these data. However, this  system  become outdated and a windows version based on the concepts of this software programme but expanded to meet modern scientific data storage and retrieval needs was put initiated in 2004. The program development has been funded by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nation (FAO) and the Norwegian Directorate for development cooperation (Norad). The system is the property of the FAO and the Institute of Marine Research and will be distributed free of charge to our collaborating partners.
