Central America

From 1987 to 1995 IMR and FAO cooperated with Central American countries for upgrading the national and regional capabilities in fisheries research, stock assessment, fisheries management and fishery development planning and promote regional cooperation in these fields.

The projects focused on training and regional cooperation and conducted several courses and workshops for example in:

  • Producing case studies to describe the present situation in each country on women’s participation in the fishery sector
  • Defining a general framework for development of the fishery sector in Central America and relate this to enhanced women’s participation
  • Proposing development strategies for the Central America fishery sector at national and regional level, directed to the promotion of women’s participation
