Invitation and Call for CommunicationDear colleagues,I would like to bring your attention to the next WGFAST and Joint WGFAST/WGFTFB meetings that will be held at the Sea Fisheries Institute in Gdynia, Poland, on 20-23 April, 2004. Study Groups begin meeting on 16 April. Hotel and restaurant information can be found on the SFI web site. The terms of reference and the preliminary agenda for the meeting are available through the links on this page. The first two days of the meeting will be dedicated to presentations on: the effectiveness of noise-reduced platforms; using acoustics for evaluating ecosystem structure, with emphasis on species identification; and statistical characterisation and utilisation of target strength (TS). The third day we will have a joint session with the Working Group on Fishing Technology and Fish Behaviour (WGFTFB). The last day of the meeting we will discuss error assessment for acoustic biomass estimates; and review the reports of the planning and study groups (PGHAC, SGTSEB, SGASC, and SGAFV). For more information on the activities of these groups, contact their chairs (see: http://www.ices.dk/iceswork/ftc.asp). The meeting format will be as usual with short presentations by the participants, with an emphasis on discussions. Please confirm your participation at this time to: david.demer@noaa.gov. To make a contribution to the discussion topics, a communication registration form will need to be submitted (david.demer@noaa.gov) before March 1st. Sincerely, David Demer,
Advanced Survey Technologies Program
